Capital Behavioral Health Network (CBHN)

About Us

CBHN is an independent practice association (IPA), established in 2018 to help drive better health outcomes for those with mental health and substance use disorders. CBHN’s parent organization, Capital Behavioral Health Collaborative (CBHC), is a 501c3 nonprofit. Our vision is to create a robust network of mental health and substance use providers who work together to create optimal care outcomes.

Our members include 30 organizations that deliver mental health and substance abuse services, offering a wide continuum of inpatient, outpatient, and community-based services. The CBHN network represents urban, suburban and rural communities in the greater capital region and includes Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Columbia, Greene, Schoharie, Fulton, Montgomery, Warren, and Washington counties.

Our Impact

CBHC, through its CBHN subsidiary, operates as a convener and coordinator for multi-county initiatives. By bringing groups of member organizations together to deliver coordinated programs serving the region, the strengths of individual organizations are enhanced, resulting in lasting and meaningful change in the communities they serve. In most cases, the combined strength of many organizations creates a structure that could not be replicated by an individual organization due to size and scale.

Thousands of New Yorkers in our region have been connected to addiction treatment services and ongoing care through COAST, and Low threshold buprenorphine projects. In addition, hundreds of individuals have received rides to treatment or other necessary support services, allowing them to start or continue on their path to recovery. These services are not only life-saving, but they also result in significant cost reduction to the health care system due to avoidance of more expensive levels of care such as emergency room visits.

CBHN is also helping to ensure the future viability of services in the region by supporting students in the CASAC credentialling programs. Students who complete the program will fill vital substance abuse counseling roles, which will help to address the critical workforce shortage that our region faces for these positions.

Our work in data analytics has resulted in the development of a shared data warehouse and reporting system that combines the strength of world-renowned university research expertise with technology to create meaningful outcomes data reports for members.

Finally, CBHN serves as a resource to leaders of member organizations and their staff for information, training, and shared purchasing opportunities. CBHN offers volume discounts on some technologies, and other services such as training.

We are proud of our accomplishments and invite you to contact us for more information.
