Capital Behavioral Health Network IPA Approved

Capital Behavioral Health Network (CBHN) has been approved by the NYS Dept of Health as an independent practice association, effective July 10, 2019. CBHN is now known as Capital Behavioral Health Network IPA, LLC. The IPA status allows CBHN to negotiate service contracts on behalf of its members.

“This is a major step forward in our growth as an organization, and in our goal of establishing a service contract for our members in the coming year,” said Kevin Connally, Board Chair, and Executive Director of Hope House. He added, “Together, the members of CBHN can achieve improved quality of services for those we serve in our communities.”

“Becoming an IPA allows us to move forward with value-based contracting for mental health and substance abuse services for member organizations,“ said Dorothy Cucinelli, CEO of CBHN. She added, “Being part of CBHN gives our members access to group contracts for services like outpatient mental health clinic care, and to data analytics that will help to drive better outcomes for patients.”

Capital Behavioral Health Network was created in 2018 as part of a state-wide initiative to reduce cost of care for Medicaid recipients. CBHN is funded by a New York State Office of Mental Health grant for value-based payment readiness; grants were awarded statewide to fund similar organizations. The goal of CBHN is to drive better health outcomes for those with mental health and substance abuse disorders by using common quality standards and data measurement to improve care among a network of providers. 

CBHN’s members include 26 providers of mental health and substance abuse services. CBHN members represent a wide spectrum of inpatient and outpatient services in urban, suburban and rural communities in the greater capital region and includes Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Columbia, Greene, Schoharie, Fulton, and Montgomery counties.
